I have a Logitech m525 mouse that I use at work (Win 7 32-bit). For the first little while, I would take the mouse home with me which meant unplugging the Unifying receiver. After a few times doing this however, I noticed that if I plugged the Unifying receiver back into a previously installed port, it wouldn't work. Over time, I've actually run out of ports to plug this device into. I get the following 'USB Device Not Recognized' error:
Looking in my device manager, I see that there is a 'Unknown Device':
and in the devices properties status I have the following:
Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)
Occasionally when waking PC up from sleep the Xonar card does not output any sound. Drivers might stop installing on Windows 10. Try 1.75a, 1.80b or 1.81a instead. Windows 10 Creators Update: Windows would not boot after these drivers where installed. If you run into this problem you have to boot Windows in Safe Mode and remove the audio drivers.
I've tried uninstalling and updating the driver, to no avail. I've also downloaded SetPoint, and installed previously when I first installed the mouse. It still doesn't work. My question is two fold:
- I have a gut feeling that there are residual corrupted drivers, hence the 'Windows has stopped the device...'. How do I completely remove ANY drivers associated with this device?
- Is there a proper way to install the Logitech Unifying receiver for Windows 7?

I had exactly the same problem, just watched this simple video on YouTube.
Basically the steps are:
- taking the black cap off
- sticking a piece of paper inside making the contact points closer
- stick the black cap back on
I tried it and it works.

This is typical behavior of a broken/worn down unifying receiver. The only way to fix this is to purchase another. However, you'll have to setup your old devices to the new receiver using Logitech's software.

This may have to be done with each new computer you use the mouse/new unifying receiver with. Although after a fresh install of Windows 8, my receiver picked up the mouse just fine without any of the Logitech software.

If the Receiver isn't being recognized it is not necessarily broken. I plugged my t600 receiver into my pc (win 7 64bit) and i am having these same problems. I move over to my laptop (windows 8) with the same receiver and i can use the mouse with no difficulty. There is something about windows 7 64 bit that is having issues with this. Test your receiver on a different device before claiming its broken. or returning your product. Chances are you may be able to make this work.

A bit late to the party but this worked for me. For some reason the usb.inf file was missing or corrupt for me.
Browse to 'C:WindowsSystem32DriverStoreFileRepositoryusb.inf_amd64_neutral_e2b28ecac19a29af'
Copy usb.inf and usb.PNF to 'C:WindowsINF'
Update drive on unknown devices
-- In Device Manager, right-click and select Properties
-- Select Driver tab
-- Click 'Update Driver' button
-- Select 'Browse my computer for driver software'
-- Enter 'C:WindowsINF' in the Search for driver software in this location field and click Next

I'm pretty sure I ran into this problem after Acronis Backup & Restore 11.5 imaged my disk to a .tib file.
Both the source system and the target system were apparently missing C:windowsinfusb.inf afterwards.
I copied it over from my netbook and an 'Update Drivers' later, had my logitech k400 wireless keyboard working again.
This seems to have affected not just logitech unifying receivers, but all USB Composite Devices. My Android tablet is also affected, as well as my Microsoft Xbox 360 USB Controller receiver, since it has two 360 pads sync'd to it, but my wired PowerA Minix360 is not affected. My microsoft wired keyboard 600 and logitech V220 are also not affected, as they are not 'USB Composite Device', but 'USB Human Interface Device'.
USB Composite Device is used to wrap up multiple child Devices in a single parent Device, such as two USB Human Interface Device endpoints (One for keyboard, one for mouse) like the Logitech Unifying Receiver does.
Big thanks to lucvdv of answers.microsoft.com for figuring it out:
Thanks for your patience in tracking it down, lucvdv!

My Logitech USB receiver had similar problems to those above. Drivers were not available or couldn't be found. I tried everything. Turned out it was a problem with the last Windows Update 2/13/2018. The link below shows you how to go into the Device Manager and command prompt to uninstall the last update. Not sure if it only uninstalled it or if it uninstalled and then re-installed with a fix, but my mouse and keyboard are working again. See link and explanation below.
After installing this update, some USB devices and onboard devices, such as a built-in laptop camera, keyboard or mouse, may stop working. This may occur when the windows update servicing stack incorrectly skips installing the newer version of some critical drivers in the cumulative update and uninstalls the currently active drivers during maintenance.Microsoft is working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release.Workaround steps are available in KB4091240.
USB devices may stop working after installing the February 13, 2018 update (KB4074588)Applies to: Windows 10
Symptoms
After installing the February 13, 2018 security update, KB4074588 (OS Build 16299.248), some USB devices and onboard devices, such as a built-in laptop camera, keyboard or mouse, may stop working for some users.Cause

Method 1: Restoring your system when a working keyboard is available
If a working wireless or PS2 keyboard is available, or if you can use the on-screen keyboard via a working touchscreen, follow these steps to restore your USB functionality:
In the search box on the taskbar, type cmd. Right-click (or tap and hold) Command Prompt in the search results and select Run as administrator. In the Command Prompt window, type the command listed below for your version of Windows and press ENTER.For 32-bit versions of Windows:dism /online /remove-package /packagename:Package_for_RollupFix~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~16299.248.1.17 For 64-bit versions of Windows:dism /online /remove-package /packagename:Package_for_RollupFix~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~16299.248.1.17 Restart Windows.

Have you tried unplugging the power cord from your computer (and removing the battery in case you're using a laptop) for 30 seconds?
The receiver should be recognised and working again the next time you start windows.

This is often an electrical problem between the USB receiver and the laptop USB port. It will work in some laptops and not others depending upon how well-made (and worn out) the laptop USB port is.
I opened my 2 Logitech receivers (as suggested in the youtube video) and the four copper pads appeared highly corroded with a great deal of black oxidation on the leads. I could not get them to work by stuffing a piece of paper between the circuit board and USB housing, as suggested in the video, but I was able to hold the USB receiver inside the laptop USB port with my hand and it was recognized. However a few moments later and I probably quivered and lost electrical contact, and it said, 'USB port not recognized' after having formerly recognized it.
You probably need a new receiver, or you can follow the youtube video, take apart the nub, and try to put it together so it will work. I must say, you may not have good luck, the manufacturing quality of this USB transceiver is horrible, Logitech, shame on you!
I paid $12 on ebay to purchse two new USB transceivers shipped from hong kong.

Hello, Some Unifying-ready Logitech devices, such as the M305 mouse, come with a non-Unifying receiver. It looks the same, but instead of the Unifying logo it has 'NANO RECEIVER' written on the case. The device ID of the nano receiver is 0xc52f. I have M305 and M175 mice. both of them come with one of these Nano receivers. I added the ID to the code and your pairing tool worked, both mice pair successfully. All it needs is a new define in line 29: and including this new ID in the comparison in line 59: info.product != USB_DEVICE_ID_M305_NANO_RECEIVER && I'm posting this here in case you want to add it to the code. |

Hi, can you send me please the modified files? I want to 'hack' my receiver which comes with M325 to work with other mouses. Thank you very very very much! [email protected] |

@djart01 Are you aware that more modern tools exist, such as ltunify (simple) and https://github.com/pwr/Solaar (more advanced)? |
commented Nov 5, 2013
I am so sorry, I need it for windows :-( my mistake. |
commented Nov 5, 2013
@djart01 There exist a receiver (yours?) that can only pair to a single device. In order to use it with other devices, you need to unbind (unpair) it first. Anyway, since you are using windows you should try the software provided by Logitech, SetPoint. |
commented Nov 5, 2013
Once a receiver and a device are paired you don't need Unifying software any more, unless you want to pair to a different device/receiver, or if you want info about battery status. Didn't know about Solaar. I'll have to check it out if it supports battery info. |
commented Nov 5, 2013
It does support battery information, although the granularity depends on the device. For example, an Anywhere MX can report battery with a precision of 1%, but a M525 mouse can only report 'critical' (5%), 'low' (20%), 'high' (50%) or 'full' (90%). For just battery information, you can also rely on UPower 0.9.22 or later (earlier versions were buggy). Example: (if you know the path, you can also use upower -i /org/freedesktop/UPower/devices/keyboard_0003o046DoC52Bx001B to restrict the output to a single device) |

@RjShadow The radio communication is proprietary, so no, you cannot pair a Unifying mouse with a non-logitech receiver. |

I also have a non unifying receiver. The device ID for my device was different. I needed to additionally add a additional nano receiver with the id of 0xc534 #define USB_DEVICE_ID_ALT_NANO_RECEIVER (__s16)0xc534 I was then able to pair with my keyboard and mouse. Useful info: $ cat /sys/class/hidraw/hidraw1/device/uevent DRIVER=hid-generic HID_ID=0003:0000046D:0000C534 HID_NAME=Logitech USB Receiver HID_PHYS=usb-0000:00:14.0-1/input1 HID_UNIQ= MODALIAS=hid:b0003g0001v0000046Dp0000C534 |

Logitech WIRELESS COMBO MK345 comes with a non-unifying reciever.(Nano reciever). Can this combo be pared with logitech unifying reciever ? On spec page on logitech site, it says that the combo is not unifying ready. But still, has anyone attempted to connect non-unifying logitech products with logitech Unifying recievers? @RjShadow has asked a similar query, but for different branded recievers. |
commented Mar 7, 2016
Some devices, like the M280 mouse, come with a non-Unifying Nano receiver, but the device itself is branded with the Unifying logo somewhere. If that's the case, then it can be also be paired with a Unifying receiver. Usually the manual of the device also states this information somewhere, see https://forums.logitech.com/t5/Mice-and-Pointing-Devices/M280-and-unifying/td-p/1327901 |

I've changed the perms for all my /dev/hidraw* devices as bellow: And after that, I'm seeing this error when I run ltunify. As you can see above, ltunify -h works. However, ltunity list gives me this error:I'm trying to use this to pair a non-unifying receiver with a Logitech H800 Wireless headset. Do you think it could work? Here are some more info about the Logitech H800 headset: dmesg hidraw I need to repair it since I bought a new USB receiver because the original one broke. Before I was using this headset normally in Ubuntu 14.04 and RHEL 7.3. With the new USB receiver, it's still recognized in Gnome, I can see it and select it in sound settings, etc. However, I need to pair the new USB receiver with the headset. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! |
commented May 26, 2017
The H800 is Bluetooth, not Unifying. Try to put the headset in pairing mode: http://support.logitech.com/en_hk/article/26700 If that doesn't work you'll probably need the Logitech utility: http://support.logitech.com/en_us/article/26699 |
commented May 26, 2017
Yeah it's both Bluetooth and USB. My 1st attempt was to use this utility, but I tried it for both Windows and Mac and none of them worked. That's why I turned to Linux to see if there could be anything in the Linux world I could use to pair it. I'll open a issue/request in Logitech forum about the utility to see if they can help. Thx. |
commented May 26, 2017
The issue is even worst. I downloaded the utility for Windows 7 and ran it. It displays the headset but it never pairs to it. Does anyone here knows the difference from pairing this USB receiver with the headset to pairing a USB receiver with a mouse? I'd be willing to try to implement it and share back here. Thx. |

I have VX Nano (very old) and a unifying receiver. Can anyone confirm this configuration works? |
commented Aug 22, 2017
I had a combo mouse and keyboard with m185 mouse and k270 keyboard. my mouse got broken. So I bought a new m185 mouse which apparently has not a unify dongle (no unify sign on it) with the device id of 0xc534 (same as the id that cinchcircuits added in commit ac8343). The new m185 cannot unify with old dongle and the old keyboard cannot be unify with the new non unify dongle. I'm in a bad situation as you see :)) I even tried windows setpoint tool but it gives me the error that it is not supported! Please help me with this issue. with the new dongle connected and turning old keyboard off it gives: some useful output with the new dongle: And the old dongle: when both dongles are connected: |
commented Aug 22, 2017
IIRC neither the receiver that comes bundled with the M185 nor the one from the MK270 combo are Unifying receivers, so they are not compatible with SetPoint. However, the Logitech Connection Utility should work. |
commented Aug 22, 2017
Thank you for your quick response. The combo MK270 is unifying compatible (with the unify sign on it). I tried Logitech connection utility as you told, but it doesn't work. I used unify dongle and it says : 'the device you are trying to pair is not unifying compatible' Is it even possible? they are just the same product model (well with different device ID) and not unify compatible? Is there any hack to do this? @cinchcircuits just did it with his own dongle which has the same hardware ID. |

Is it possible to change the single nano receiver working with a M185 mouse to work with a K270 keyboard that is not unifying? |
commented Jun 12, 2018
Hi I bought a logitech combo k270 (keyboard and mouse) K270 keyboard and m185 mouse. They came without the nano receiver because the person I bought them from had their laptop stolen about 2 weeks after they bought the keyboard/mouse, and the receiver was in the laptop. I have bought a replacement receiver with the same part number (non-unifying nano receiver C-U0010). I haven't yet managed to persuade the receiver to pair with the mouse or keyboard. I have read online that these devices come pre-paired and that what I am trying to do is impossible. I run windows 10 at home and Windows 7 at work. Is there a way for me to pair these devices or have I wasted my money? It seems to me that if you guys can't help me, no-one can! |
